hey there everyone welcome to another episode of the management Partners podcast I'm Kevin Daisy and I'm excited

0:09

as always to be your host today I have a cool guy uh coming from a small town

0:15

firm I got ly bis on the on the podcast today so welcome to the show Hey Kevin

0:20

thanks for having me man yes sir yeah I've enjoyed our chats uh prior to this

0:25

recording getting to know you a little bit better um and uh you know cool story

0:31

unique situation I think will be great for folks to hear and learn from

0:37

especially um if you're a smaller firm or start out firm especially if you're

0:43

in a smaller area or outside some larger metropolitan areas and so uh really what

0:49

we'll be focusing on today is you know learning from Lloyd is you know he's right outside of New Orleans and Baton

0:56

Rouge so he's he's got two big areas big cities around him but he's right in the middle and so for him he's kind of a

1:03

small town Hometown law firm uh but at the same time a lot of sources of leads

1:10

and and and clientele is is right next door so really want to kind of talk about what that's like to have a firm on

1:17

the outskirts or just outside of those big city areas so if that sounds like a firm like yours um Lloyd's going to

1:24

share a lot of cool things today we'll be talking about some brand um and things like that as well and and how to

1:29

get more clients and and do well and and do good things in your community and how

1:34

that can really help you know establish your firm so so ly without further Ado I

1:39

guess uh first off tell us your story and and how you got started in this yeah

1:46

of course uh so um I'm like first generation college graduate in my

1:53

extended family and I I kind of didn't have any direction of what to do in college I had no idea about the law um I

2:01

went to college got an engineering degree and I think you told me you had an engineering degree as well which was

2:07

interesting um but through that I I like worked in some manufacturing chemical

2:12

manufacturing facilities and uh I just didn't like it it was kind of it didn't fit with my

2:19

personality and so I was like ah you know what I'll go to law school um kind of off the

2:25

cuff which was kind of a crazy decision but went to law school thought I was going to use kind of my engineering

2:31

background um did like environmental law studies at tulan had a great time um

2:40

learned a lot came out and started practicing and did some like you know

2:45

toxic Tor remediation style work and then um when I graduated it was also the

2:52

year of Hurricane Katrina in the New Orleans area and so I think everybody who graduated or

2:59

was a practice practicing attorney around that time in the south Louisiana area did some kind of hurricane damage

3:07

property damag type of of work and you know I'm no exception to that I mean I

3:13

was a baby lawyer and like go to court do handle these motions depose

3:21

these experts and like well I have no idea what's going on they like well there's so much work right now like

3:26

nobody really does everybody's kind of in the same boat um and so I did that for a number of

3:32

years and then one day in like 2008 um I got a call from my

3:40

grandmother telling me about my cousin her niece who

3:46

was um dealing with a brain cancer issue she said look I don't really know

3:52

what's going on but she needs some help um and so I picked up the phone and I gave her a call and I could tell

4:00

pretty immediately that there were some issues um from a from a medical

4:06

standpoint and the help she needed was her Disability Policy it kicked her off

4:13

and said oh we think you can work um now I had never I had never done any kind of

4:19

you know extensive medical legal medical work before but I just knew that was

4:24

wrong um because this was somebody again who I'd known my whole life

4:30

and I in conversations with her she's just stopping me and asking me hey can you tell me your name

4:37

again and it just it just left me dumbfounded that an insurance company

4:43

could tell her oh we think you can work and really it just it

4:48

it it angered me and I just dug in and I you know I was like I don't know what I'm doing but I'm gonna figure it out

4:54

and you know I started figuring it out figuring out what's going on figuring out how to fight this denial figuring out how to help her uh and through that

5:03

process helped her get her benefits back get her her financial security for her

5:09

and her family back um to where it

5:14

was and then just started getting I just started blogging about this like what I was learning and so this was like early

5:21

days of Wordpress I just created it was like aw wordpress.com blog um

5:30

the free website blog sites yeah yeah um and he would

5:35

started contacting me from all over the country like hey I'm dealing with this issue can you help me can you look at my

5:43

case and from there kind of saw that okay maybe there's some potential here

5:49

um at the time I was working for a small firm in in New Orleans

5:56

uh by now it's like 2010 and I was like you know I think I can do this I think I can go on my own I think I can start

6:03

this practice um I was able to convince my wife who at

6:08

the time was seven months pregnant with our third

6:14

child so all on your own yeah so you know it's the the best of times right

6:20

and so I I think the lesson there is like there's there's really never going to be a great time um you know if you

6:26

wait for that perfect time it's never going to happen You'll Always Find EXC uses and so amen we just took the leap

6:32

man and um kind of used what we we learn

6:37

to to focus originally on disability cases uh long-term orisa type cases and

6:44

Social Security Disability built a you know a small practice around that for a while I

6:51

wanted to really be involved with my children's lives um from my background

6:56

my father wasn't really involved in my life and I was like it's not going to happen I'm going to go to PTA meetings parent teacher

7:02

conferences I'm want to coach them in sports and show up for every event and so while they were growing

7:09

that was kind of our Focus to just practice enough but to be involved

7:17

hope fully um and then as my children started getting older I started kind of

7:24

grow in the practice a little bit more and so you know by 2016 17 18 um we were

7:31

starting to bring on team members go into other practice areas

7:36

where we were the clients that we had helped that found us for the disability stuff and like the work that we did were

7:43

like hey can you help me with can you help me with this personal injury case I was in a car crash or my my son or

7:49

daughter was dealing with this and then you know as you said earlier we're in a

7:54

small town people just show up because you're a lawyer and they don't have any other

8:00

lawyers that they know or that are close to them and they're like can you help with a succession can you do a will a

8:08

power of attorney can you handle these other things and so that wasn't really our Focus but we

8:15

hated turning people away I hate turning people away I feel like he I have an

8:21

ability to help and it's the right thing to do is to try to help and so figure

8:27

out kind of how we can use that to our advantage um and be I think being in a

8:33

small town really helps you kind of connect with people on a different level

8:38

um and become that trusted go-to resource for them even if you can't help them and so we kind of turn that into

8:47

hey reach out to us we probably will if we can't do it we will probably know

8:54

someone become that go-to person yeah yeah and so from there we we've kind of

9:00

grown into we now we primarily handle uh personal injury and disability cases our

9:06

personal injury cases are you know kind of localized south Louisiana area um or

9:12

people who live in south Louisiana sure and our disability cases I mean those

9:18

are kind of Nationwide interesting so you you've

9:23

become getting National cases for that so well I want to kind of dive more to

9:29

to that and the small town the brand and stuff like that too but just for everyone watching or listening um his

9:35

website if you want to take a look at Lloyd's firm is uh ljbl legal.com say

9:41

ljbl legal.com and we are talking beforehand you know before before he had

9:47

what disability Louisiana or something like that yeah Louisiana disability law

9:52

so he had a very specific Niche domain but as he's grown uh about four years

9:58

ago it sounds like they they switched that domain and wanted to be a little bit more open so something to keep in

10:04

mind especially if you're think about SEO organic your online presence or any kind of branding or like broadcast

10:11

Billboards whatever that domain you're using is pretty important and so think about your long-term plans as a

10:19

firm uh or if you have Partners like what domain you're using because Lloyd does is there an SEO in

10:26

house uh which is very impressive um they've done a very good job with that and so he knows kind of the the

10:33

challenges with switching that um it's not an easy process yeah so just a tip

10:39

there that you know look at your domains think about the future and uh

10:44

get something that's going to be you know kind of General in use uh we just had a firm recently go to VA legal

10:51

services for Virginia VA Legal Services because they their Partners keep changing and they' just they keep

10:58

changing the domain over the years so anyway pro pro tip

11:03

um and actually I had had Jennifer Gore on recently and she's got Atlanta injury

11:09

law she's branded to that versus her name um so just something again to kind

11:16

of think about with your future plans and branding and kind of what your goals are um so Lloyd small small area outside

11:24

of two big cities technically uh kind of want to talk more about you know how you established that and um how a firm

11:34

can you know still rank online and still get

11:40

clientele and kind of that cross between being found but also being seen and

11:46

known that it sounds like you've done a really good job of of both of those things so small towns small events small

11:53

communities being known but also if I go online and I'm looking I'm not sure who

11:58

you are maybe I'm new to the area uh that I'm also able to find you there so let I want to kind of talk about what

12:05

you've done there yeah sure so um part of it is

12:12

just understanding the market that I think most big cities have a very

12:21

very competitive landscape when it comes to personal injury cases um you're going to have a few huge players in the market

12:29

and then a a fair number of of uh medium to large siiz players in that market and

12:36

for us you know it's no different and we cannot we could not spend the type of

12:43

dollars to put into the TV radio billboard PPC SEO

12:50

campaigns that a lot of these bigger firms could um but we knew that we could

12:56

do good work we could get some clients and so we kind

13:01

of have to figure out how do we how do we position ourselves as you say between these two

13:07

bigger legal markets um because you know

13:13

online there there are no kind of geographical boundaries right I mean you can type in a keyword and maybe you can

13:20

get something but people from way outside of your city or your location will show up first

13:27

um if they put in the right keyword they throw enough dollars at it for long

13:33

enough and so how do we start kind of nudging in getting our own slice of

13:40

that pie and I think what we what we kind of discovered or what we stumbled upon I won't say discover we kind of

13:46

what we started doing was hey we're local we know that we can't compete with these guys let's not try to but what we

13:53

can do uh and what most of them won't do is you know we live in this community

13:59

we're a part of this community we can be visible in this community um and through

14:05

that you can start becoming known in your community

14:11

as well as hey you're doing a a benefit for you know the school or so and

14:18

so treatment for their you know cancer or whatever you're doing a golf tournament great we'd love to help hey

14:25

can you give us a backlink can you you know start building up small local backlinks just by you know you're going

14:32

to donate anyway ask them they they have a a web page or some type of social

14:38

media site yeah ask for a backlink to your to your website and that will start

14:44

building that local kind of authority that way yeah you might not get the reach out from those two bigger cities

14:50

but when people closer to you are starting to look online they'll see like oh yeah you'll pop up plus if they start

14:58

digging into your site they'll see oh well yeah this guy really does he is

15:03

committed to this community look he's supporting the school he's supporting all these other fundraisers he's you

15:10

know here locally you're showing up at a vent you take pictures of your tent at the local Festival you you're there your

15:18

team's there not to sell anything not to give any you know you're giving some stuff away but I also say hey look if

15:25

you got questions just call me up stop by uh get on the calendar I'm I'm willing

15:31

to talk to folks um and that it goes a long way and so it it kind is a mesh of

15:37

both the digital um advertising that I think is necessary now as well as kind

15:43

of the old school show up be there type of marketing that that resonates with so

15:52

many people um and so that's kind of what we've done and what we've kind of grown into we we

15:59

still kind of you know we still do those things no I love it I think um you know

16:05

hitting the pavement hitting the street uh make you to make some time for that especially you know if a new firm

16:11

starting out you know you got to make time for those things you know make a plan uh join boards get out and help

16:17

people do what you can um but you

16:23

know again having the time for that because you get busy with a couple clients a couple cases

16:29

and and you put that the side you're not paying attention to it it'll you'll have these waves when you're active and when

16:35

you're not um so but I love the the mesh of you know digital and kind of what my

16:41

expertise is with you know the real which is like in person and and actually showing up and donating to these things

16:48

and and participating in your community yeah very important to do both of those things and and you know we we we my

16:56

marketing team forces me to take a lot of pictures at these events and what what ultimately happens is you know

17:02

people like seeing themselves not me but others you know oh look he put me on his

17:08

website oh they put me in their social media they like it they share it to their friends their friends like it you

17:14

know um it and it just kind of grows organically um we

17:20

do many types of events I think I just the local high school is doing some type

17:25

of shark tank event and April you know they reached out to us like hey can you

17:32

be a can you come and be a judge for us uh the that's awesome the high school

17:38

from the next town over did a career fair recently they reached out like hey we know you are involved we would you

17:45

mind coming or sending someone on your team to come um we sent our team to the

17:50

Middle School Career Fairs just to kind of talk to folks right be out there the teachers see you the the school workers

17:57

see you the parents that that are there see you and they know that hey you are committed to this community it's not

18:04

just you're not just a lawyer in town you're here you show up and you take pictures and you post them and they like

18:10

seeing it and you know they share it for us yeah I'm

18:16

in just a quick I got invited a couple a few years back now but it was like a a local high school that has an

18:22

entrepreneurship program and I went and spoke there and uh it was awesome but um

18:29

it's those kinds of things that you can go do it they invited me that didn't even cost me nothing I just got to speak

18:35

to a bunch of kids but yeah to to match it with the digital right you get you're you're going to a a

18:42

school and they're doing an event they're going to take pictures and you just talk to the organizer like hey

18:48

please put that picture up here's my my website put me a backlink and then you're going to get a backlink from

18:53

a.edu domain oh yeah you know that's going to be a good you know has some good domain

18:59

Authority for you about the anchor text say tell them to put the anchor text is

19:04

that's right uh we have our you know my marketing team will you know work with

19:10

them to to and most of those folks they will just do whatever you ask them as

19:16

far you know as long as it doesn't go against their policies or rules which none of this does hey can you give me a

19:22

link here can you put it here can you put this anchor text in can you change the Titleist because you know they

19:29

their teachers they're doing this as volunteer stuff they're just looking for

19:34

visibility as well and any accomodate that's right if you can help them teach

19:39

them a little they'll be more than happy to kind of to accommodate you and and

19:45

put it up how you want yeah so this a side note too sorry my allergies here

19:51

um Springtime in Virginia yeah um so but

19:57

so one of the things too if anyone listening and and kind of what Lloyd's again where he's located and any other

20:03

firms listening that are again the outskirts or in a smaller town and maybe in the middle of nowhere um and I got

20:09

clients that in the middle of nowhere and I got some that are just on the outskirts and some of the bigger firms that have all the Deep Pockets and all

20:15

the money you can find these little cracks and holes in areas that they're not

20:21

investing and because they're so big and they spend so much they're also going

20:26

after all the high ticket stuff and they're usually focused right in the the

20:32

city the town you know they're going to put all the energy there and so the the good thing about that is is to not be

20:39

discouraged if you're smaller is they can't focus on every little town and

20:45

every little pocket you know it's just not going to be part of their strategy they want the biggest the best and so

20:52

that's an advantage for the small firms there's going to be areas that they're not focused keyword they're not hitting on whether it's PBC or SEO or locally

21:01

like louy is doing as well like they're not going to be at all the local events at these smaller towns they're going to

21:08

be the big events that you recognize uh you know maybe the business Community might

21:15

recognize but there these bigger events they're going to sponsor so yeah it's opportunity I think it is a big I think

21:21

it's a it's a great opportunity especially like you said if you're just starting out you got a new firm because it's it's so hard to

21:29

compete for those bigger cases those bigger firms like essentially you can't

21:35

yeah you know you're never going to be able to spend as much money as they can so you got to attack the problem in a

21:41

different way and that's what we you know what we try to do is be there it's who we are you know

21:49

we're already we live in this community uh we our kids are involved in this

21:55

community we grew up in this community and okay you can do that in your community but you can also Branch it out

22:02

too by just being involved in the community next door show up the one across we have a big river you know the

22:08

Mississippi river separates us from part of that River yeah it separates us from

22:13

the other part of our Parish but just go across the river and and and

22:18

be there and you become associated with it by showing up and then when they look online they say oh I know this guy I saw

22:26

him they have a case they see they they saw you at an event they're looking for

22:31

an injury attorney and then your name pops up and they're like oh I know him not only is he a lawyer he

22:39

also showed up to our stuff he supported our team he he supports our school he

22:45

supports our kids he supports this stuff in our community let me give him a call

22:51

first that's try to do yeah and I think um another thought that I just had was

22:59

um again the the bigger firms they're not going to be doing that they're probably not going to have people going out and meeting folks leadership's too

23:05

busy they're not going to be doing that um they probably don't want their attorneys out doing that stuff not at

23:11

the consumer side anyway like the plaintiff side maybe a business attorneys business attorneys totally

23:16

different you know different kind of approach similar approach but different um

23:22

but one of the things too is um your brand so we talked about brand bit in

23:29

the beginning but if I go look for an injury attorney I might not want me

23:34

personally might not want the big shot attorney on the billboard that screams and yells on TV and stuff that might not

23:41

be comfortable for me as a I'm not saying that's to me but I might not want to approach that firm they might seem a

23:48

little too scary to call how much are they going to cost I don't know if I'm going to you know they just going to

23:54

like push me through a big system like what what's the interaction I'm going to have so I think if you have someone

24:01

looking at two different Law Firm Brands some might want the the yelling

24:06

attorney that says I'm going to fight for you and get all your money or they might not they might want

24:12

the approachable Community Focus firm that they can call and feel like they're

24:17

going to have someone on the phone and and they can meet with in person so you're going to have perceptions there

24:24

right and so even if uh the the local client finds the big firm or knows of

24:30

them they might not want to reach out to them so then Lloyd's another option and so they say you know what I like this

24:36

firm better it it appears more approachable I can get to know Lloyd by looking at his website or watching a

24:42

video of it and so I I think there's a big part of that so the big firms can't win everybody they just can't win

24:48

everybody yeah because of that so I I was thinking of the story and it kind of

24:54

resonated with what you're saying and another reason you know I think this kind of approach works so I got

25:02

married uh 22 years ago now I had some you've had a boss

25:08

since yeah um we had some great family and friends

25:14

who you know truly loved us would kind of do anything for us but we told them we were getting married in New Orleans

25:20

the wedding was going to be downtown and the French quarter and they were like I mean I like you but I'm not going to the

25:27

city right and I think you know it it's a good reminder that hey even in your community

25:35

being visible in your community is important because there are going to be folks who don't want to go to the city

25:42

but if they can't find what they need in in the in your community they will out of necessity and so by being visible by

25:51

being out there making sure these folks know that you are here you are in this

25:56

community um they will naturally want to just stay

26:02

with you because they don't want to go to the big city they're whatever they're scared of it it's too far away it's too

26:07

much traffic too much whatever um but if they don't know you're there

26:14

they will naturally just still look for someone to solve their problem so you gotta show up and be there and I think

26:22

you know being digitally Adept is absolutely necessary because what happens is

26:29

they know you're there but they're still going to go look for you online exactly

26:34

yeah right they're going to pull up their phone they're going to look for you and if you got a great website and you got some stuff on it they're gonna

26:40

say hey why do I have to go to the city I got this firm right here in our town

26:47

or 10 minutes away from my town who they have a great website they obviously know

26:53

what they're doing they got reviews they got plenty of reviews you know they're

26:58

ranked highly I see them around town they're posting pictures around town why do I have to go to the city right and so

27:05

that's kind of how they both play together right you yeah you are visible but then you are online and so when they

27:11

look at you it's like oh why do I need to go anywhere else this firm can take care of what I need

27:18

right here yeah I love it and I think you know that's if I was to own a law firm maybe

27:25

I'll I'll get one in Arizona where I can own one I'm not yeah I would I would probably put

27:31

offices around outside the the big cities like you know I wouldn't even try to go downtown so you I got a A friend

27:39

of mine kind of uh friend of a a client of ours um he's in the middle of nowhere

27:46

Washington State and um his strategy is that he put offices in like these little

27:52

towns in the office space cost like 500 bucks a month right and some of them don't have attorneys in those towns like

27:58

literally pretty remote but there's main highways and there's he's a car accident attorney right and um his

28:05

strategies very simple but from an online perspective Google business

28:11

profile um get the office set it up push some reviews there get a little bit of a

28:18

strategy and he's he's soaking up you know cases right away pretty much I

28:24

think that's kind of our next you know one of the one of the things on our long-term list is kind of that that same

28:33

approach um finding those locations that are kind

28:40

of on no one's radar um legal Wasteland so to

28:47

speak you know uh that has some you know that have people that need to be um that

28:56

that have legal needs to kind of get into those places help those folks solve their

29:03

legal problems uh while staying on the periphery of the big guys yeah yeah so I

29:10

think that's a great approach for a small firm and to think you're gonna go head to-head you have to be downtown now

29:16

I got I got a prospect right now that was referred by a friend of mine and

29:21

he's under the belief that he cannot compete in his Market at all even though he has in the past you just stop I don't

29:28

know who he's using but it's it's not working for him but he's convinced that uh he can't because Morgan and Morgan's

29:35

not too far away and I was like you're no that's not not correct at all and um

29:41

but he's been told by other marketing people that you got to spend this amazing amount because Morgan and Morgan

29:48

is nearby and you'll never just give up move away somewhere

29:53

else and I'm like you you've lost your mind and so he was at 50 people and and

29:58

uh you know he's experienced a little bit of a a harder time and so you know he's just sold on the fact

30:05

that he's unable to compete and so for any small firms listening it's

30:10

absolutely possible whether it's Grassroots guerilla marketing hitting the ground doing what Lloyd's talking

30:17

about doing whatever you have to do right um but you're going to be able to get work out there get cases if you're

30:23

doing good work you're transparent and you're iic and you have your you know

30:29

work on your own brand of who you are um if people like that they'll they'll come

30:34

knocking and then from a digal standpoint again the big guys can't focus on all of

30:41

it there's going to be cracks and and pieces where you can you can sneak in there and again them Brands they might

30:49

not like the big guy they fall back to the next person or two I lik in it too

30:55

um there was always this big fear like if Walmart came to your town like every other store was going to close down

31:01

right and Walmart came to our town 25 years

31:07

ago some stores may have closed but really what it did is it we have more

31:12

stores open now because it showed the viability of your community that hey it

31:17

is worth something it brings people in and know we have another grocery store or two other grocery stores within like

31:24

three miles of Walmart right um that originally people were just fearful that

31:30

hey Walmart's going to come in there's going to be no more local businesses and it just didn't happen I think the same thing holds true when you when you're

31:37

looking at the Morgan and Morgans of the world maybe coming into your community there's gonna be other ways to kind of

31:46

find folks who don't resonate who don't want to go shop at Walmart who don't

31:51

want to to deal with that kind of big Behemoth same thing holds true on the

31:56

legal services side yeah and I think um I was talking about this on a more recent episode um but

32:06

actually was not even on this podcast I was on someone else's podcast so you might not hear it but um we were talking

32:12

about AI too and and kind of the threat of that and Automation and you know

32:18

white collar jobs and stuff like that so and it's just I think your big you know

32:23

Amazon and the Walmarts they'll automate and they'll use Ai and they'll use things but you're just there to get a

32:30

product and you're not you don't really care about the experience of Walmart you're not going there to be like I

32:36

can't wait to go to Walmart today and buy some stuff but when it comes down to your

32:41

local shops your authentic restaurants uh the the local hardware

32:47

store that you go get specialty stuff at and you talk to people and you you you know instead of going to Home Depot

32:54

right so I got a Home Depot for my for some stuff and then I'm going to go to my specialty store for other

33:01

things we're never going to lose that even if you know you're not going to go to a restaurant and there's no people

33:06

there and it's authentic Italian restaurant no not gonna happen right so

33:11

there's a cut off point where it's like okay I'll do these things like this but I'm not interested in doing other things

33:18

that way yeah exactly I think your big firms again you know it's they they're

33:23

going to get a lot of the cases they're going to get majority of them maybe but there's room for everyone around the

33:29

sides and so don't just shut down or give up and say oh here they come we're

33:35

screwed like there's plenty of work out there and there's plenty of of things and they can't handle all of it you know

33:41

the big as they they are they they just can't handle it all and there's different situations they can't and you

33:47

know kind of a another in some respects if you build up

33:53

your local brand you know in your local community when those big firms have a

33:58

case in your community that needs to go to trial that's going to be kind of a bigger thing they're probably going to reach

34:05

out to you because they're gonna want someone who knows that people know people have seen around on on their team

34:13

for that type of case uh and it's not uncommon for us to get a call

34:18

from a competitor so to speak to be like hey can you help out on this case

34:24

because it's in your community that doesn't that doesn't happen if you just

34:30

give in and don't ever try to build your own brand be your own you know be who you are in your community yeah yeah I

34:38

totally agree with you yeah well I mean it's all good stuff and I again um if you're thinking about

34:44

starting your in firm or if you're just a one attorney you know firm at this moment trying to figure out what to do

34:51

um you you got to make a plan you got to think about these things um talk to Lloyd reach out to him or lots of others

34:58

that have had on this podcast that have have done exactly that and you know I've had plenty on here that they're right in

35:04

the major Metropolitan and they started there and they grown and they were successful uh going against you know

35:11

going against the tide if you will but um if you're outside of a big area small

35:16

town rural areas there's tons of opportunity for you and there's ways to make this work and scale and grow and uh

35:25

you know so just you know appreciate you sharing and kind of what you've done and and some of the cool things that they've

35:31

made you guys and so and also you know looking at Lloyd's site again look at take a look at his site um ljbl

35:37

legal.com uh again impressively doing a lot of the digital SEO things that we do

35:44

in house uh he's done they've done a very good job um the things on his website with the the chat and the layout

35:50

all these things like that that they've done a very good job of so it take some lessons there as well but and then 319

35:58

reviews with the 4.8 so these are things like things you see that what he's doing online if

36:05

that's what you are focused on which you should be what what they what he's done is uh

36:12

spot on it's impressive so you I've seen firms that have been around for 10 20 years with six offices that have like 70

36:19

reviews you know it's like we can't get any like well you're not trying hard enough that's right you to hearken back

36:27

to episode of your you don't have a process in place to kind of to to get you from where you are to

36:33

where you want to be with the reviews a lot of things comes out to process if there's no process and you're

36:40

thinking well yeah we we know how we do that okay is it actually a process written down a document you can pull up

36:47

and follow boom boom boom boom boom boom it's not you know I end up doing this a

36:53

lot the times myself I be like yeah yeah I always do that I just have a thing I do yeah no one else would be able to

37:00

find it and I could probably forget it half the time but if you ask me like oh

37:06

yeah yeah I always I always do that right right you have to write it down get it in the hands of all your staff your people incentivize them um you know

37:14

I'm just talking about reviews at this point but yeah writing content reviews there's so many things that you can be doing for events you know yeah looking

37:22

for events going to events you know you got to put it on your calendar you got to have someone you you know have your

37:28

team always be on the lookout for things that you can participate in yeah speaking a lot

37:35

of you know they're looking for speakers it's not a regardless of how small it is right you know some sometimes you know

37:40

small things that we do are just hey they're having a they're cooking for someone who's sick and they're trying to

37:46

raise money okay we're gonna buy lunch for the whole team I'm gonna send someone over I'm gonna buy an extra you

37:53

know 50 lunches for whoever needs them send them to the homeless shelter or something something right and then they

38:02

post oh thank you for buying you're helping you're feeding people just very

38:07

small things that you you just got to figure out a way to to make your mark in a different way

38:16

yeah and I think like what you said there that's all like systematized too right like we talk about it hey anytime

38:22

you see something let us know ask them every day hey have you seen anything kids doing anything any of

38:29

these you have a different group of friends on Facebook or Instagram than we do right like let us know what's

38:36

happening we even tell our clients like hey if you see something let us know we could call all the time and they're all

38:42

great opportunities one to be a real person in your community which you can then leverage online to show that you

38:48

are a real person yeah I mean other things too is um you know what like my podcast here

38:54

you can do something like this at a local level you live and get on with people in the community and do uh and

39:01

host a live hey uh This Is Us you know you know having a platform for you

39:08

to learn more about the community our our city Our Town that's right um You can uh or get someone to go hey what

39:16

what local shows are there or podcast or make let's get a whole list of them can

39:22

we be on them as a guest um you know whether it's local TV whether it's just

39:27

a a YouTube show I mean you'd be surprised say another like we have a a

39:33

small local newspaper you know and you know newspapers have been dying for years right but we reach out to them all

39:41

the time hey can we put an article in about this can we put an article they will always say yes they are looking for

39:48

Content they're looking for information oh yeah buy an ad they you know they

39:54

need us they need to survive too um you want part of your community but they will gladly put it in then you can take

40:00

that at they'll give you a backlink you put that on your website um you know it's you know more trust indicators more

40:08

Authority building for you while also helping others yeah no you're totally on point I

40:15

mean newspapers Aren't Dead completely but they also they've all moved online and so even if they still print like

40:23

they have an online presence so my local paper here I'm in Virginia Beach we have a local uh it's pilot Virginia pilot or

40:30

Pilot online their domain rating is 81 like so yeah and I send them an article

40:36

about marketing or anything they they publish it almost 100% of the time and

40:41

so you can get also build a distribution list of all the Statewide

40:47

Publications Statewide newspapers and what we'll do is we'll Bo send the same thing right hey we wrote

40:54

this article on this topic and like a handful of pick them up and they backlink and um and they you get that

41:01

exposure so simple things that just take time and attention and planning

41:08

but once you kind of have a process for that then you know you're always new events New Publications opportunities

41:15

and you're just kind of building up that and it's it then becomes just Mindless effort you know to to get that stuff out

41:22

there every month so it makes sense I agree I agree it's a it's a good it's a

41:27

good strategy you know and especially especially if you're new or have a newer

41:34

firm because other folks aren't doing it yeah yeah yeah again it's kind of

41:40

gorilla tactics if you will but it's um tried and true and and uh again it helps

41:45

your digital presence backlinks and it's you know just get that exposure and your name out there um where the the big guys

41:53

aren't paying for it because most of the stuff is free you know so they're not doing the free they're only doing the

41:59

paid because they feel like they have to yeah because they have 100,000$ 200,000

42:04

a million dollars a month spent yep so they they don't look at the free opportunities

42:10

so cool well Lloyd I appreciate you sharing uh all this stuff today and um I

42:18

wanted to end with a couple little things here um and what's your actual location so the city that you're yeah my

42:25

my city is called Luling Louisiana Louisiana all right I love it

42:32

um and I wanted to I know that you're in some masterminds and you you you're

42:37

active in learning and growing yeah and obviously that's why you're on the show so glad we got to learn from you today

42:45

uh but you know few you know what what's some groups out there you recommend um things that have helped you uh get to

42:52

where you're at um I've I've been a member of great legal marketing for quite a while

42:57

Ben glass Brian glass his son we're Mastermind members of that group um

43:05

learned a lot from from them uh pilma Ken Hardison's group um Charlie

43:13

man I think he's doing his own thing now used to be with with Ben but he's a wealth of ideas and information um great

43:21

person to learn from and then just getting into books you know reading a lot of books you know 10x is easier than

43:28

2x good to Great you know EOS I mean there's a lot of things out there they

43:33

may not all apply right away to you you may have to read them get some ideas and put them on the shelf for you to grow

43:39

into U but it's it's important to just kind of be exposed sometimes to the

43:45

possibility so you can kind of start developing in your own mind the pathway

43:50

to there it might not be overnight might not be you know within a year or two but

43:56

put it put it down develop a a kind of process of playing to get there and uh

44:01

you know be committed to it be be committed to to your vision

44:07

um and just ask ask ask folks who've done it be put yourself in those rooms

44:14

and it'll some of that stuff will rub off on you you'll be inspired and and I think that's kind of the important

44:21

thing yeah I totally agree with you and um I think you know one of the takeaways there which is also helped me is not

44:28

just one room but getting in multiple rooms and trying different things and exposing yourself yeah to other ideas

44:34

and different people and you might try a coach for a while and then you switch to a new coach every you know every once a

44:40

while you need to refresh and and bring in someone else so I think you know what Lloyd's done there is he's he's he's not

44:46

just kind of like stuck at one thing it's like I'm GNA go and explore and try the things and and learn from other

44:52

folks and if you can just soak up a little bit get a little something here and there than is it's awesome so well

45:00

Lloyd uh anything else you want to share before we go no I appreciate you having me on if anyone wants to reach out uh

45:07

can send me an email Lloyd it's just one l l yd ljbl legal.com I'd be more than happy

45:15

45:22
